LOUISIANA FCU CELEBRATES REOPENING OF BRANCH AT EAST ST. JOHN HIGH SCHOOL
LaPlace, LA – On September 5th, Louisiana Federal Credit Union celebrated the reopening of its student-run branch located inside East St. John High School. One year ago a partnership was created between Louisiana FCU and the Finance Academy at the school to help students learn the importance of managing their finances. Students and staff are now able to access their credit union accounts without leaving campus during their lunch periods on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The branch is currently operated by 8 student tellers and one Louisiana FCU employee.
To prepare for the event, members of the school’s Finance Academy participated in a poster contest that advertised the reopening and encouraged students and faculty members to start saving at the Credit Union. Students and teachers stopped by the credit union and learned how to become credit union members. All students and teachers that opened accounts that day were able to spin the prize wheel and received gift cards to local eateries.
According to the Credit Union National Association, there are 144 credit unions nationwide that operate in-school branches. All are student-run to some degree.
Louisiana Federal Credit Union is a full-service not-for-profit financial institution serving over 20,000 members in the River Parishes and Tangipahoa Parish area.
