LFCU Celebrates International Credit Union Day

Louisiana Federal Credit Union recently celebrated International Credit Union Day with a jammed pack week full of activities for both members and employees to enjoy.  With the theme being “Making a World of Difference”, LFCU sought out to make a difference in several aspects of their membership.

The festivities began on Monday, October 16th with a membership celebration. LFCU focused on their reoccurring theme, “Members are a BIG DEAL”, by passing out LFCU car magnets to all members that stopped by. Members “caught” driving with the car magnets visible won a share deposit of $25.

The celebration continued early on Tuesday morning with “Breakfast at the Credit Union” where credit union staff served pastries, coffee, and juice to all members that visited inside the lobbies, while drive-thru members enjoyed breakfast bars. LFCU coffee mugs were handed out to early-bird members. This event gave members a chance to meet and greet with their favorite LFCU employees and enjoy the benefits of their credit union membership.

In order to thank staff members for all their hard work and to keep them excited about the second half of the ICU Week activities, LFCU hosted an employee appreciation breakfast on Wednesday. This breakfast was hosted before the branches opened, so that all employees could attend. Employees enjoyed a catered breakfast that included everything from eggs and bacon to grits and cinnamon rolls.  And what would ICU week be without a new t-shirt? Staff members were thrilled to receive “I © LFCU” t-shirts that were to be worn by all on the following day.

With member safety in mind, LFCU continued Wednesday with “Identity Protection Day” where members were encouraged to bring in personal documents that they needed shredded.  LFCU also raffled off a personal desk shredder at each branch. Packets that contained brochures about identity theft and ways to prevent it were also given to each member.

On Thursday and Friday, LFCU ran a two-day special auto loan promotion entitled Swap & Drop. This promotion gave our members the chance to swap their auto loan from another lender for a significant rate reduction. For two days only, LFCU guaranteed to beat the member’s current rate by 3%- as low as 2.99%! In two days LFCU received over 160 auto refinance applications which resulted in 132 new loans totaling $2,841,672.29. The promotion also resulted in 41 new membership accounts.

“Young members are a BIG DEAL” was the theme for the celebration on Saturday. Several LFCU employees volunteered to help out and enjoy a fun filled day with young members. A tent was erected at the main branch along with music, snowballs from Plum Street, a balloon artist, and pictures with the Credit Union’s kids club mascot Kirby the Kangaroo. All members through the age of 12 were encouraged to make a deposit into their Kirby Kangaroo Account, in order to receive a Harvest Gift Bag that was loaded with fun prizes. Teens were also encouraged to deposit money into their CU Succeed Accounts for a chance to win an iPOD.

The week concluded with LFCU employees volunteering on Sunday morning for St. John Parish’s Annual Andouille Run. Staff members set up and worked a water stop for all race participants.

Louisiana Federal Credit Union is a full-service not-for-profit financial institution located in the River Parish area serving over 20,000 members.
