Louisiana FCU Brings Financial Education to East St. John High School
LaPlace, LA – On November 15th, Louisiana Federal Credit Union hosted the 2nd annual Finance Fest at East St. John High School. The Finance Fest promoted financial literacy in a fun setting by incorporating hands on activities for the students to participate in. Students learned about different financial scenarios including ways to save, borrow, and make smart money decisions. They were also exposed to the advantages of credit union membership and learned about the various products and services that Louisiana FCU offers in order to help them reach their financial goals.
One year ago a partnership was created between Louisiana FCU and the Finance Academy at the school to help students learn the importance of managing their finances. As a result of this partnership, a student-run branch was built inside the school. Students and staff are now able to access their credit union accounts without leaving campus during their lunch periods on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The branch is currently operated by 8 student tellers and one Louisiana FCU employee.
Louisiana Federal Credit Union is a full-service not-for-profit financial institution serving over 20,000 members in the River Parishes and Tangipahoa Parish area.
