About two weeks ago, I called in a warranty claim to Michael Kors on my favorite watch. The band had gotten really scratched up since I wear it to the office (and constantly bang it against my desk). I kind of knew this wasn’t going to be covered by the warranty, but I figured I’d just give it a shot and see if they could help me out.
After hearing my situation, the customer service rep kindly explained that the damage wasn’t covered by the warranty. (Surprise, surprise!) He then went on to tell me how. I could get the band replaced for $34. The fee also included replacement of the crystals, battery, bezel case, back of watch, etc, etc. Basically, for $34 they would replace everything except the guts of the watch. Considering the original price of the watch, this was a deal that I could not pass on. I quickly wrote a check and mailed off my favorite watch along with another one that I had purchased a few years prior. Why not pay $68 to fix them both?
Last Friday, I received my favorite golden watch in the mail. It’s as shiny as it was on the day my mother gave it to me. I also received a letter stating that my other watch could not be repaired. Instead, they offered to replace it at no cost, and they gave me a huge selection of current models to pick from.
That’s two new watches for $68. I was simply delighted, and I’ll probably never purchase any other brand of watch.
So when’s the last time you were delighted?
