My budget is my best friend!

When it comes to money, the last word people want to here is BUDGET. It usually has a negative connotation, but I want to shed some light on what a budget truly is. According to Google, a budget is “an estimate of income and expenditure for a set period of time”. We usually hear people say, “Oh I can’t buy that, I’m on a budget”. Well if you budgeted in the first place, maybe you could afford what you heart truly desires. I budget every pay period, because I like to see exactly where my money is going so I can...

"Mommy, can I have that?"

“Mommy, can I have that?” “Mommy, I really want these for a snack!” Comments like these are constant when I bring my two children to the grocery store with me. Sometimes, I feel like a broken record player when I repeat the word, “no” after every request and dread our trips together.  Of course, it never fails: the automatic response from my six year old followed by “the look” in his puppy dog eyes, “Why not, Mommy?” If you are like me and become a sack of mush when those eyes of your small child look at you, then really, what...

ASK THE EXPERT by Linda Boe

Q: Is it too late to refinance my home? A: If you haven’t refinanced in the last couple of years, then you definitely still have time to refinance and save big. With current interest rates on a 10, 15, 20 and 30 year term mortgage ranging between 3.25% – 4.75%, you stand to save thousands of dollars in interest and possibly lower your term. The real kicker is...

Bi-Weekly Blues

Do you get paid every two weeks? Once or twice a month? I don't know about you but it seems like feast or famine not receiving a deposit every week. I remember all too well making the transition from a weekly paycheck to one every other week. Week one = gas, groceries, out to dinner, bills and maybe a little pampering. Then, week two = pinching pennies, eating spaghetti and bagged lunches, and reminding myself that I will make it to the next pay day. I was fortunate enough to receive awesome advice on.... (wait for it)....BUDGETING. You might be thinking,...

The Machine that Gives Mommy Money

As a mother to two preschool aged children, I am always on the lookout for those great teachable moments. Teaching them their manners, treating others with respect and the difference between right and wrong certainly top the list. But another important teachable moment that I sometimes forget that is just as equally important is the lesson about money. Just the other day, my 5 year old and I passed the ice cream shop in my hometown. It is the local summer hotspot and the line was super long. As we drove by, the shop’s bright colors immediately caught his attention and...
