Louisiana FCU Announces $12,000 Scholarship Program

 RET Scholarship

LaPlace, LA – Louisiana Federal Credit Union (FCU) is pleased to announce the Ronald E. Thomas (R.E.T.) Memorial Scholarship opportunity beginning February 26. The annual program, now in its 34th year, awards $2,000 to six graduating high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership and altruism in the community.

"At our core, we believe in the power of education and community support,” said Rhonda Hotard, President and CEO at Louisiana FCU. “College scholarships are not just about funding tuition; they're about investing in the future of our community. We are pleased to offer this opportunity to our members through the R.E.T. Scholarship.”

Erin Powell, a 2023 recipient now attending Louisiana Tech University, said, “The RET Scholarship relieved a large part of my financial burdens this year.”

As a hurricane survivor, Powell is among many who recognize the scholarship's meaningful impact. “It can help out the people in the biggest way, especially in areas where we are still recovering from the disaster,” said Powell.

The deadline to apply for the 2024 R.E.T. Memorial Scholarship is Friday, April 26. Eligible students are encouraged to submit a brief summary describing how they have grown as a leader during the formative years of high school. Recipients will be announced in the spring.
